Exit through the Gift Shop →
Just watched ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’ (for free via topdocumentaryfilms.com).  Totally not what I expected… it’s fantastic!  Banksy is so enigmatic. (No wonder it was nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary earlier this year!)

BBC News - Pakistan Minorities Minister Shahbaz... →
Terribly sad for Pakistan (and for democracy, minority groups… well, for everyone really!).  A man is killed for defending the poor and standing up for injustice. This is what happens when you have weak leadership, allowing this sort of horror to occur unabated.  Bhatti’s death wasn’t the first (and sadly it probably won’t be the last). If what happened in Egypt gives a...

Pinkoi - 品味正在蔓延 (Taiwanese Etsy) →
This site looks great!  It’s a Taiwanese rendition of Etsy (an online marketplace for handmade items). There will be an English version of the website coming soon.  Read more about it at this recently featured Taipei Times article.

Another World Food Crisis →
This year food prices have already risen to new highs. This is a crisis affecting the whole world (prices in Taiwan and Australia will rise this year). And yet… The world is today already producing enough food to feed 12 billion people, according to the FAO. There are only problems of price, supply and distribution. Why the food crisis?!??! According to this article, the problems...

More Young Americans Identify as Mixed Ethnicity →
An interesting article on the ‘stew’ (cf. salad or melting pot) of American people today.    An aside: I personally cringe at the words ‘race’ and ‘interracial’ because I believe we are all part of the human race (i.e. there is only 1 race). ‘Race’ and ‘interracial’ have strong negative connotations associated with them.  I prefer using...

Today, starting from the very early time of 6am, there have been firecrackers let off every 15 minutes or so. Most businesses are starting to open today here in Taiwan so they have been letting off firecrackers before starting business. The reason is to scare away ‘bad luck’ or evil spirits. As one friend described it: “it sounds like the Chinese are invading”. :)

Australian 'spy' James Sun left to rot in Chinese... →
AN AUSTRALIAN citizen, James Sun, has spent five years in prison in China, including two years on death row, after being convicted of being a spy for Taiwan. He is now living in harsh conditions serving a life sentence in Beijing Prison No. 2. …. If the judgment is accepted, the case reveals Taiwan is recruiting agents within the Australian-Chinese community. The case also points to the...
