Today, starting from the very early time of 6am, there have been firecrackers let off every 15 minutes or so. Most businesses are starting to open today here in Taiwan so they have been letting off firecrackers before starting business. The reason is to scare away ‘bad luck’ or evil spirits. As one friend described it: “it sounds like the Chinese are invading”. :)
